One of the things we’ve been doing for some of our WordPress web clients this past week is to provide them a front page “Urgent News” section that actually rides above or below the header. It usually takes a bit of tweaking of the template file in a child theme, and allows the client to provide content, links, and media (including images) in a rather prominent way that stands out from rest of front page design:
This also allows the client to toggle the alert option on or off (once they don’t need it, they can shut it off for the time being). The alert system can be useful for other emergencies, such as weather-related closings, changes in hours, etc.
Since so many organizations need it now, WordPress site owners should want an urgent news feature like this.
